Troy Elmore Submarine 7'2 // SOLD

Availability: Out of stock

The Submarine is a so-called "ode to transition-era" piece of surf craft. During the tail end of the sixties shapers & surfers were ditching their slow, heavy, sticky hully logs for smaller mid-sized (but still hully) boards that allowed a much more dynamic way of surfing. Not just swinging in, locking in the rail and tail and walking up and down your board waving arms and dipping heads down the line like a circus monkey, but suddenly hey there was actually some real surfing going on!

All of a sudden 'vee' was the magic word and everybody was surfing mids with rolled bottoms ending in various degrees of deeply vee'd tail ends.

The Submarine is just such a board, offering smooth flowy motions and big arcs up and down wave faces without ever breaking trim. Think of a classic car with one single, seamlessly smooth gear and boat-like suspension. Rolled bottom to light vee, flat rockered and slightly eggy and narrow, it'll handle anything from ankle high up to overhead waves easily but hey when it gets real hollow or heavy we'd suggest riding something slightly different.

Here's Troy himself surfing one wave on it from minute 3:38, and in the second vid explaining the shape in this super rad Japanese subtitled one with incredibly sucky audio. Enjoy!
